My First Tattoo
Okay, this wasn’t my first tattoo. I have had plenty, but the only difference about this one is that it won’t wash off in the shower.
I have had the thought of getting a tattoo for about the past three months. It all happened during one of those late night thought sessions when you can’t get to sleep. I’ve been hearing there is a point in your life when you really figure out who you are and what you believe in. Sometimes it’s through specific experiences and other times it’s just sitting back and soaking in what you already have in your life. I’d say that over the past six months, I have had a lot of quality time figuring out who I am and the way I view life by enjoying what I have.
I feel like the tattoo I decided on is exactly what I feel and how I view life.
The original plan was to get a tree and a lyric placed on my forearm. I felt like the tree resembled me very well, and how life works. People come and go like the leaves of a tree, but that tree will always be there for you. The leaves will come back at some time or another but me, the tree, will always be there. I am like the tree in a sense that I am always there for people. Whether they need someone to lean on, or just need protection from a storm, I will be there for them.
I held off on getting the tree, but I did get the lyric.
The lyric that I got, on my wrist, is from John Mayer’s song “The Heart of Life.” John Mayer is my all-time favorite artist. The lyric goes like this: “the heart of life is good.” No matter what you, or I, are going through, love will turn the whole thing around. This really reflects my view on life. Yeah, bad things will come and go, but in the end the heart of life is good and you should be grateful for what you have in your life and where you have been because it has made you a stronger and better person.
I have no regrets getting my tattoo, and am happy to share that, indeed, the heart of life is good.
